Christian Self Care

Writer: Pam GivensPam Givens

Have you wondered how self-care fits for Christians. The idea of doing something to take care of yourself, when God says he will supply all our needs seems counter Christian. But it does fit…the dialog is different.

Christian Self-Care Starts with knowing Jesus and spending time with Him. He knows how you were knit and what your needs are, listen to Him to properly care for yourself.

Serving others is a form of self-care. We were created with purpose to meet the needs of one another just as Jesus Christ did as an example for us. He also balanced that time with time to rest and refocus.

Walking in your purpose is taking care of yourself. When we are feeling overwhelmed press into Him and find out what plans he had for you.  Maybe we are operating outside of where He has called us.  Take time to reflect on your Calling Star.

Self-care is about good stewardship. Our minds, bodies, and hearts are all blessings and gifts from God. Remembering this, it can be easier to work towards the goal of maintaining our health with a God-centered perspective.

Take some time this week to reflect on your focus of self-care and whether or not you are stewarding your health well.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2
